Helvetic Airways is Swiss airline based at Zürich Airport. It operates flights to leisure markets in Europe and North Africa. The airline now operates scheduled flights on behalf of Swiss International Air Lines using a fleet of Fokker 100 planes. In October 2010, the Swiss airline announced a new base in Bern Airport.

The Brief

Swiss Airline Helvetic Airways wanted an innovative way to promote their free return flights to its business passengers flying out of Wales’s International Airport in Cardiff.

What We Did

Having had some productive meetings with their media buyers, gained a good understanding of Helvetic’s core audience and weighed up the potential sales vs PR possibilities, we proposed a QR code campaign across airport advertising boards, in-flight magazines and on-door drop vouchers which were printed to look like the airline’s tickets.

When scanned the codes linked through to a downloadable voucher with which travellers could claim their free return flight from a number of European destinations.

We were able to measure key statistics like number of scans, location of scanners, busiest scanning days, and the handsets used to scan the codes. Over 100 return flights were claimed within a month and Helvetic are looking at even more innovative ways to incorporate QR marketing into their future marketing initiatives.
