Google have famously struggled to get in on the social market, and that's no better summed up by this quote I came across here:
"watching Google try and catch Facebook in Social Media is a lot like watching Microsoft try and catch Google in search".
So what have we seen from Google by way of attempts to crash the social party? There's Orkut, an online community designed to make your social life more social (if you live in Iran & Brazil where it is still active), Knol, a free and easy way to create, collaborate on, and publish credible web content, Wave (dead) and Buzz (start conversations about the things you find interesting, while you still can because this too is dying).
It's a shame because Google is so good at search, and has taken some worthy political stances in the past, but why won't they leave social alone? Who knows. Anyway, here is a quick video on Google's latest social venture, +1. Time will tell whether this becomes the 'Like Button Killer', although we strongly suspect not!
