Are you on Snapchat yet? How many times have you been asked this recently? Well. Here at Coup Media we feel that you are going to be hearing this more often. The new feature brings a whole new dimension to the popular messaging app and it feels as though they have borrowed from Instagram (just a little). Instead of Snaps vanishing for good, there is now a place where you can store them; and even edit them later. Having access to old Snaps, being able to edit and also save them is a big deal for Snapchat users. You could already save to camera roll but this had created a big disconnect and involves leaving the app.
This new feature allows you to save directly within the app; which we think is pretty neat. It’s not quite Instagram, but you will now have somewhere for your content to live and this will undoubtedly create more of a community feel which is where Snapchat could be heading? Snapchat is seen as more interactive and fun and this could be what it needs to challenge Instagram when it comes to the more visual platforms out there! The user experience now feel less raw and more accessible too! Oh, and you can now upload already taken photos. So go get creative!
Instagram can be a visual diary; charting what you have been doing and where. Snapchat is now entering this space it would seem. You can already post to your Story but this only lasts for 24 hours. Adding a timeline element in a blog post on launch, Snapchat stated “You can use Memories to create new Stories from Snaps you’ve taken, or even combine different Stories into a longer narrative! It’s fun to celebrate an anniversary or birthday by finding a few old Snaps and stringing them together into a new Story :)”
So what of the ghost that started all this? Have Snapchat left what made them unique in the past? Not quite. In the same post they added “We realized that Snapchatters want to feel comfortable showing their Memories to friends while they’re hanging out together, so we made it easy to move Snaps and Stories to My Eyes Only — and avoid awkward moments when a friend stumbles upon a Snap meant just for you.” So there you have it, Snapchat are embarking on an sizeable change which will now make it even easier for you to take complete control of your content.
Is now the time to jump on board with Snapchat as a brand? Many have embraced the messaging platform and with these changes we feel that Snapchat has now firmly taken its place alongside the competition. Last week we looked at how Snapchat and other platform are transforming the fashion industry. Take a look here.
